Simultaneously sporty and edgy, 2016 has seen the bomber jacket reemerge as a style staple among fashionistas and gradually increasing in popularity as the year progresses. Heavily influenced by the military, this fighter pilot "topper" has now taken over the fashion world coming in a wide variety of colours, textures, and silhouettes whether it be cropped and fitted or slouchy and oversized. Undoubtedly versatile, the bomber has become a "throw and go" grab seen on celebs such as Kanye West and Rihanna.
Because of its seemingly laissez faire vibe, the bomber looks AMAZING however you choose to style it. For day to day wear, a style no-brainer would be to play up its inherent sportiness by pairing it with everyone's wardrobe staple, a basic tee and jeans. Up the ante by swapping out a solid tee for a graphic one, perhaps even layer it over a fitted turtleneck for added interest. Pictured above, we've topped Junk Food's "The Who" tee in Ivory and Free People's "Modern Cuff Cami Turtleneck" in Black with the latter's "Midnight Bomber" in one of this season's hottest colours, Wine. The cropped length of the jacket works perfectly with MOTHER Denim's "Rascal Slit Step Fray" in Shake Well whose rise is slightly higher.
While we LOVE this trend done casually, we're quite easily OBSESSED with it "dressed up." Using the same bomber as base, this time in Moss, we've taken it up a notch and paired it with Mackage's "Kera Shorts" and Kendall + Kylie's "Ayla 2 Boots", both in Black. Switching out the day to day basics of a classic tee and jeans for leather shorts and OTK boots quickly take this trend from sporty to edgy...sexy even. Cuchara's "Bella Choker Necklace" and B-Low the Belt's "Bri Bri", both in Gold, provide the perfect finishing touches to an already elevated ensemble.
As evidenced by the usage of the bomber jacket, gone are the days where women dress solely for men, nowadays, women are dressing more and more like men, only we do it BETTER with more options and more opportunities.
