Love them or hate them, bodysuits have become one of THE biggest trends this season, and it doesn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon. Available in a wide assortment of styles from tanks to off the shoulder to high neck and low backs, these second skin "onesies" have become a wardrobe staple and, in many cases, a fashion ESSENTIAL!!! I mean, how many times have you gotten dressed in the mornings and wished your tucked in shirt actually stayed tucked in?!! While not always the easiest things to get into, once on, not only do they look great, but they serve as a second-skin of sorts, molding and shaping the lines and curves of the body to hopefully, its most flattering angle. Gone are the days when they were solely the "supporting" article worn under classic cut blazers, nowadays, and in many cases, bodysuits have become THE focal point of the entire outfit, that from which everything else revolves.
As the "star" of the ensemble, Tularosa's "Nile Bodysuit" in Black (above) serves as an unconventional layering tool. By putting a silk button down shirt under rather than over it, full attention is given to the bodysuit's ribbed texture and lace-up detailing, a detail that may have gone unnoticed had it been covered up. DOMA's "Washed Leather Darken Jacket" in Bratto Grey and assorted chokers by Cuchara add edge and sparkle to this multi-layered look.
Similarly, Tularosa's "Millie Bodysuit" in Black has been given a multi-layered, modern update by layering Free People's boudoir inspired "Lace Lacey Cami" in Ivory over top (above). Typically thought of as lingerie, camis and lacey underpinnings are more often than not, alluded to in dressing, not actually used in such a direct way. Having the contrast of the darker bodysuit underneath serves to play up its own texture while at the same time allowing that of the lace to shine through. IRO's "Twiggy Jacket" in Ecru, in all its knobby glory, fits in beautifully with the entire look...each piece working together to bring out the very best in each other. At the end of the day, isn't that the best we can hope for for our closet FAVES?!!
