Style Highlight: Always In

We've seen it everywhere... shades of Bordeaux gracing the magazine covers, coveted by fashion enthusiasts, and hitting the floors of our favourite boutiques. Bordeaux (think wine, burgundy), has become such a popular colour that it has, without fail, made an appearance every Fall and Winter.

Pictured above, we love the idea of this colour on a leather medium, which we don't see everyday. Its rather matte element lends itself as a great foundation to build on other styles such as partnering with what we think is a TIMELESS staple: leopard print.

Animal print has always been popular but the exotic allure of leopard has been warmly embraced by the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Isabel Marant, and Dries Van Noten. The Holy Grail of prints, leopard is something we'll never tire of. We're especially seeing this on coats and blazers that instantly transform an outfit to the NEXT LEVEL. From leather, faux fur, to velvet, options are endless and while we are completely for this print on other variations (leopard loafers, anyone?), we strongly suggest the beginner leopard wearer invest in a coat. Why? For the new fashionista on the block, a leopard coat is an easy, nearly fool-proof way to wear this style. Incorporate it with a laid-back style such as a white tee, dark jeans, and ankle boots and you're set! The key is this look is as bold as you make it.

Layered underneath is also a HUGE YES this season: embroidery. Styled in the For Love & Lemons "Dove Embroidery Mini Dress", this beauty boasts delicate details consistent with the oriental-inspired designs we've seen on the runway, a contrast to its embroidered denim jacket and sweater counterparts.

Blending in all these components makes this ensemble stand on its own, effortlessly. Feminine, romantic, yet balanced out with an edgy, chic feel, this never-going-out-of-style look can't get more STUNNING!

Style Highlight: Layering Trends

Pictured above, we've taken cues from different trends that make this outfit a true KNOCK-OUT wonder! We've weaved in print on print, use of different media, present with themes of texture and dressy-casual elements. While we've mentioned how texture is a big YES in a previous Style Highlight, a great way to include this is through mixing media. Unreal Fur's "Dream Jacket" in Charcoal, Rails' rayon "Hunter Buttondown" and Yu Fashion's metal "Boho Necklace" create so much depth and dimension that we could almost stop here. But since when have you known Yu Fashion to not go that extra mile?

What's PERFECT about each piece is that they are multi-purpose. Combining the faux fur coat with a rather casual flannel and rocker tank, and then topped with a GLAMOROUS statement necklace keeps the dynamic fresh and everyone guessing. Moreover, Junk Food's "'Jimi Hendrix" tank and Rails' buttondown play footsie with the sometimes-hard-to-get print mixing.

It is no surprise that even the biggest fashion lovers tend to avoid mixing prints. That's because not all prints, with their patterns, colour palettes, and make, all put in consideration, look good together. That's not to say they fall short on their own... but when combining print on print, there are a few key elements that should always be used as a rule of thumb. When deciding your outfit, pick out pieces that, from a colour stand point, are either in the same colour family, or are colours that are complementary to each other. Colours in the same family create harmony, while complementary colours create appealing contrast. Consider the outfit as a whole; Is it balanced? Is it fluid?

Trending now, we are seeing the classic striped print, with the pyjama trend being strongly influenced by it; the floral print, pop culture artwork, and all the way back to retro prints are evident in fashion powerhouses like Prada, Gucci, and Alexander Wang. In the look pictured, we add retro and pop culture elements through the buttondown and tank, respectively.

Layering these trends has not only made this look a merry symphony, edgy and visually stunning, it's inspirational. If you're not quite ready to dive right in, pick out components that call out to you and work from there. We can't say enough good things... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Style Highlight: Texture & Shine

From Chanel, Saint Laurent, to Versace, metallics are proliferating the catwalks this season. A surefire holiday HIT, this silvery and gold trend offers a fresh option for day and nighttime looks and we can't get enough of all the ways it can be worn. As we know, luxury is ALL in the details. Metallic hardware and embellishments on workhorse staples such as button-ups and shoes convey an edgy yet grounded look. This has garnished a faithful following and has been a recurring element on the high fashion scene.

For a sexy and elevated look, all-over metallics STEAL the show. Pictured above is Free People's "Sequin Romper Dress", decked in detailed rustic gold sequins. If you're not quite ready to part ways with your LBD this holiday, add an ounce of familiarity by combining the best of both worlds. With the romper dress pictured, we styled it with Vince's "Long-sleeve Turtleneck" to add dimension and texture (more on that shortly). Think of this look as the cooler cousin of the LBD.

Silhouettes we are seeing are clean-cut, fluid, and thoughtful and a trend that flawlessly complements this is making style choices rich in texture.

No longer a taboo to be donning faux, pictured above is Kendall + Kylie's "Faux Fur Mink Coat", now in its third restock. Aside from its obvious element of warmth, this stunner offers a NECESSARY opportunity to truly complete the picture. We see texture recently dominate in velvet fabrics, ribbed knits, and the ever classic faux fur. Taking this and metallics is a guaranteed fashion-envy masterpiece. While it's important to mention that not all intersecting trends result in the perfect harmony, fashion lovers like you and I know sometimes it just takes some experimentation for a fashion-lottery win.

Style Highlight: Sets and Camo

Making its way in and out through the decades, we can definitely say camo is back- and with a BANG! This "blend-in" print is nothing short of making you stand out. An increasingly popular colour, military green, versed with its iconic sand and golden hues makes this print a go-to piece time in and time out. While we are fan of the classic military jacket, we love this trend in all its fun forms from wide-legged trousers, OTK boots, to overcoats. With athleisure continuing to be a game-changer, this combo is a no-brainer. Styling an athleisure-influenced set with a bold print, like camo, will ironically tune down its "in your face" persona and transform it into a statement-making, EYE-CATCHING ensemble.
