Vince Does It Again...

Just when you think they couldn't possibly come up with anything else, they go ahead and prove you wrong! Vince has another winner on their hands with this season's "Cacoon" sweater in Natural. I LOVE this sweater...the style, colour, texture...everything is just perfection. My favourite part of the sweater though is the back, TO-DIE!!!

Pop of Colour From Soft Joie

Sella Top

Soft Joie, a casual division of customer favourite Joie, is known for their casual tops; the "Sella" top in Parchment/Lava is no exception. This tee would be fantastic right now paired with denim cut-offs, but would be equally great in the fall thrown under a chunky, brown sweater for a pop of much need colour...double duty, how practical!!!

More Joie...

We have many favourite lines here at Yu, and Joie is definitely one of them!!!

Ladies, This Is How It's Done...

As we mentioned in an earlier blog, fur is/will be a HUGE trend moving forward into the Fall/Winter season. We had suggested a few ways in which you could interpret the trend, and incorporate it into your everyday wardrobe. The following is an example of how Claire, one of our "honorary" Yu girls, has decided to wear her DOMA vest:

How are you planning on wearing your vest???

Paige's Pick: "Henley Floral Burnout"

I chose the "Henley Floral Burnout" long sleeve top by Free People as the shirt I would like to showcase in 3 different looks for 3 different seasons. The top is a great piece to add to your closet for 3 reasons: it's basic, yet noticeably different, modern with a vintage feel, and finally, because it's both elegant and fun!

For those who like a very clean and feminine look, this choice of outfit is for you! The Burnout top is paired with James Jeans and Jocelyn Kennedy necklaces, which gives any backyard BBQ pop of color!

For all of those who like a cool and sophisticated look, this outfit is ideal for you and perfect for the fall. The "Henley Floral Burnout" is paired with this beige Doma leather jacket, some Jocelyn Kennedy necklaces, and ripped 7FAM  giving this outfit the edge it needs to compete with all the changing colors of the season!

Calling all fashionistas to Yu Fashion! This outfit is styled for all of you who love to stay warm, but look fabulousy glamorous at the same time. The Burnout long sleeve is paired with Doma's fur vest, along with a silk cashmere Chan Luu scarf, and Rich & Skinny "Legacy" jeans. Adding to the look are the newest additions to the store: Manitobah Mukluks. This look means 2 things: Guaranteed warmth, guaranteed style.

*Lola, we have Paige's Pick saved for you...
*Claire, would you do Paige's winter look?

What's Mabel Wearing???

Going back to school and need something to keep you warm, comfortable, and fashionable? Try pairing our new, long, and fitted Free People "Rolla Coasta Sweater," with a silk cashmere Chan Luu scarf. Finish off this understated fashionista look by adding a Karyn Chopik multicolored long necklace to make your back to school blues disappear!

Introducing...Manitobah Mukluks

Manitobah Mukluks is an Aboriginal owned company manufacturing various mukluks and moccasins. What's special about this brand is that they are made in Canada. The entire footbed of the mukluks is wrapped in 100% sheepskin, and genuine fur trim. Another great feature of the boot is the sole. It has a great grip, making it great for our slippery winters, and the thickness of the sole keeps your feet above the snow. We aren't the only fans of Mukluks, Kate Moss has been seen wearing her Mukluks all over Britian.

Maison Scotch

Maison Scotch, based in Amsterdam, specializes in casual clothing with a preppy twist. My favorite item from this shipment is the "Silky Polka Dot Top." Dots are HUGE for fall, and every fashionista needs this top! I love the idea of red and polka dots together, so I will definitely be experimenting with that look for fall!

7 For All Mankind

Lockhead Bootcut

Roxanne Cord (received in Charcoal)
New Sevens in darker washes...great for fall days.

Wildfox

Wildfox is slowly becoming one of my favourite graphic t-shirt lines, pretty much comparable to Lauren Moshi. I am really enjoying theWhite Label sweaters (pictured top left and right). Because they are knitted, it sets them apart from all the others; I think that either would be great for fall. I also really like the "Nevada Outlaw Jumper" as the navajo trend has clearly taken off for fall with Rag & Bone and Prozena Schouler debuting this look on the runway. Drop by and take a look.

How To Wear: Lace Shorts

Alexander Wang totally ignited this trend back in Spring 2010, and since then, it has totally taken off with countless celebrities photographed in their lace shorts.

Alexander Wang

What I love about these shorts is how comfortable they are...I am wearing mine as I blog right now! I feel there are two ways to wear the shorts: dressy or casual. For a dressy look, I really like Kristin Cavallari's look with a silky, black tank... I would probably also add a blazer and wear it with some high heels for a night out. You want the blazer length to be just above the short length, like Emma Watson did, any longer and it won't look like you're wearing any pants! For a more casual approach, I love what Ashley Greene did: I love mixing lace and army green. The lace shorts would also look great with a Lauren Moshi and/or Wildfox top, and a jean jacket...swap out your heels for combat/motorcycle boots.

Ashley Greene, Kristin Cavallari, Emma Watson, Blake Lively

I know, our summer is short lived...but you can totally wear these for fall/winter by adding some black opaque tights, even under the white shorts... it still looks good! Keep the tights basic, no patterns, otherwise it may look too costumey. I am picturing my lace shorts with boots, tights, and an oversized sweater for fall! Check out our Free People lace shorts next time you're in!

How to Wear: Fur

Fur took the runways by storm for Fall/Winter 2011. Everyone from the unpredicatable Miuccia Prada to  minimalist Phoebe Philo of Celine had fur in their collections, whether accents or full-out jackets. A huge trend was big, bold colored fur from The Row, Gucci, Marni, and Prabal Gurung. While this trend is nice on the runway, I don't really want to look like the Cookie Monster...If you want to try this trend out for yourself, I would suggest doing a colored leather jacket, or jeans in an unpredictable colour.

Of course we are right on the fur trend, but in a more wearable way: a vest! Customers have already been asking us: "How will I wear the fur vest?", "Can I pull it off?". My main suggestion is to make the vest your focal piece. You don't want it competing with colored denim, a huge necklace, or in my case, a curly mass of hair. Keep everything else clean and simple. Wear the fur vest with a 3/4 length Joie silky top, and skinny jeans, or try a more fitted Vince cashmere turtleneck with flared jeans. You need to wear the fur, don't let the fur wear you!

Mackage
Joie
We will be carrying three different versions of the fur vest for fall from Doma, Mackage, and Joie. The Doma vest is already in stores, and is probably the most subtle of all three. Of course we will be blogging when we actually receive the vests, but there is a limited quantity ordered. If you are interested, don't hesitate calling the store, or commenting below.

How To Wear: Sequin Tops

We've been asked several times... "What do I wear with those sequin tops?" "Can I wear it during the day?" Well, we have the answers for you! There are several ways to wear the sequin tops, for day or night. During the day, wear the sequins with chinos or boyfriend jeans (a la Claire). At nighttime, I love this look with shorts* and pumps. If you're not comfortable with shorts, you can always try this look with a skinny pant or leather leggings, just make sure you put something underneath the top as it is on the shorter side. This top is probably more versatile than you think, and you will be getting compliments all day and/or night!

*YES, you can wear shorts at night!

Fresh Lines for Fall?

At Yu, we try to be on top of the fashion game in Edmonton, striving to bring new and original brands to the city. With that being said, we want to try some new denim lines that haven't made their way to Edmonton yet. This is where we need our customers: what do YOU want to see? What are your favorite denim lines that you have to go to the States for? We would be thrilled to have your input! Please comment below!!

Investment Pieces: Chan Luu

I know there are a lot of immitation Chan Luu wrap bracelets out there that are advertised as "the same thing, for a fraction of the price,' but be warned, the quality just isn't the same. Sure, you might pay 1/5th of the price, but it breaks soon after. The reason for the Chan Luu price tag is the use of geniune leather, silver nuggets, and semi-precious stones all of which are braided by hand. I know it may be difficult to justify the price of these bracelets for some, but believe me they are well worth the investment! A Chan Luu bracelet will last forever!!!

Free People

Floral Burnout Henley

Caravan Dreams Tunic
Every time I open a box of Free People, I think it can't get any better than this... but it always does! They are always impressing me with each collection. My favorite piece is the "Caravan Dreams Tunic," how nice is that back detailing??? It would look perfect now with denim cut-offs, and with skinny jeans and boots for the fall. This is just a sampling, drop by to check out the rest.

What's Mabel Wearing????

After the storm last night, Mabel has had enough, and is fast forwarding to fall. This week she's decided to wear the "Maison Scotch Plaid Dress" topped off with the "Doma Shearling Jacket." To add a little shape to the dress, a Brave belt did just the trick, and for jewels, Claudia and Jocelyn Kennedy necklaces add just enough glitz...the whole look is very Ralph Lauren, isn't it???

UGG Replenishment

We have just received replenishments in two of our favorite styles: the "Coquette Slipper" and "Bailey Button". Our customers rave that the "Coquette" is the ultimate house slipper. My favorite UGG style is the "Bailey Button", I wore mine almost all winter...I love folding them over to expose the fur.

Graham & Spencer

What makes Graham & Spencer's clothing so special is the subtle detailing. Whether it's draping, or leather accents, each piece is unique and far from basic. The fall collection we received is perfect, lots of soft fabrics in great cuts. This is just a sample of what came, so make sure to drop by.

Free People!

Wide Stripe Sweater

Lace Cutaway Top and Flutter Bed Jacket

Rolla Costa Sweater
Free People is the must have brand for every bohemian in the city; it's the perfect mix between romance and edge. I think the "Rolla Costa Sweater" will be a great addition to anyone's closet. I love the idea of the long sweaters with flared jeans...just make sure the sweater is at, or above your knees, otherwise it can be unflattering.
