Along with the "Roll Up" shorts from 7FAM, we also received some "Kimmie" bootcuts! The Kimmie jeans are fairly dark with a bit of distressing. These would be ideal paired with a basic white tee, scarf, leather jacket, and flats...such a great casual look! This kind of fit flatters and accentuates a curvy shape rather nicely!!!

Paige's Pick: Funktional "Doppler Tank"

The pick today is the Funktional "Doppler Tank." This top is a great multi-purpose, long-term investment piece. It can be used either casually or dressy...great for summer and the office, etc.

The first outfit is a great look for the office, with an Autumn Cashmere basic cardigan and Vince "Slim Zip" dress pants. The look is pulled together professionally and appropriately for a typical work day. To complete the outfit, a Britta necklace was added. Adding a watch, and a variety of bracelets to the mix is also a good idea.

The second outfit I put together is for when office hours are over, and it's time to enjoy the weekend!!! This is where the "long-term investment" part comes into play; the "Doppler Tank" looks fantastic with a pair of white skinny 7FAM jeans. I love this look, and all I had to do was switch up the pants and take off the cardigan. The addition of the white pants makes this look great for dinner and drinks!

Paige's Pick: "Tie-dye" C&C Maxi Skirt

This week's pick focuses on the "Maxi" skirt, and for all of you who think you are too short to wear one, what I'm about to say is about to knock your socks off: you're actually not too short! This was news to me recently as well, so I completely understand if you're in shock at the moment, but try to focus and read so I can show all you vertically challenged gals out there how exactly to pull off this look as if you were a 6"9 supermodel.

This first look is for a casual summer/vacation day where you're out shopping, or taking a walk along the beach. This look is great because it's comfortable and easy! Not only will it make a great bathing suit cover-up, but the best part is that this look gives lots of options for foot wear: if you're tall, you can pair this with gladiator sandals, but if you're on the shorter side, then all you have to do is add a pair of wedge sandals. This look came together by combining a C&C "Tie-dye" maxi skirt with the "Margo" tee from Joie along with necklaces from both Claudia and Karyn Chopik. To round out this look, try adding brown or black leather wrapped Chan Luu bracelets to bring out the outfit's "organic" feel.

This look is for an evening out in the summer, or for a hot date while on vacation. This looks great on everyone, but is particulary flattering for the shorter ladies because the top is fitted preventing one from getting lost in the fabric. Again, add wedges or flats to complete this look. This outfit is assembled with a James Perse black tank, a C&C "Tie-dye" maxi skirt, and a combination of Karyn Chopik and JK necklaces.

Time to put back on the socks and do some shopping!

Jerd's Corner: How to Wear Maxi Skirts

One of my favorite summer staples is the "Maxi Skirt" for soooo many reasons:

1. Super comfortable: loose and flowy...feels like you're wearing "nothing"

2. Effortless: Just throw it on, and you instantly look summer appropriate

3. Covenient: If you (accidentally) forget to shave your legs, or apply too much self-tanner, you're still safe (ok, let's be honest, this is my MAIN reason...lol)

The maxi skirt might be a new look for you, or if you need some different ideas on how to wear your existing skirts, I've devised four distinct "looks" that will literally take you from the beach to the party.

1. The "City Girl" Maxi: The basis of this outfit surrounds a silk maxi skirt; it is a dressier rather than casual look. Since the skirt is rather full, all three ladies below added structure to their maxis either by layering their tops, or by tucking them in. This prevents the maxi from looking too casual, and makes it more city appropriate. I personally LOVE the idea of incorporating denim to toughen up the look a bit. Always consider footwear options; I would pair this with either flat gladiators or wedges. Save the flip flops for our next look.

2. The "Beach Babe" Maxi: Where's the sand? Cotton skirts from C&C and James Perse are perfect for any tropical destination, or backyard barbeque. Everything about this look screams casual, so pair the Maxi with your favorite tee...especially ones from Nation Ltd. Grab your shades and flip flops, but don't forget that stash of bangles and wooden necklaces either.

3. The No-Brainer Maxi: While doing my research, yes blogging is academic, I noticed every "it-girl" in LA was pictured in this look. If you couldn't be bothered to think "outside the box," or if you just want a fail proof outfit...this is it. Start with your black Splendid or James Perse maxi skirt, add your favorite white tee, and top it off with a black leather jacket. Finish the look off with flip flops, sunnies, and your favorite Balenciaga.

4. "Dressy" Maxi: Probably the most genius idea for formalwear I've seen in a long time! I love how simple and comfy this is while still being dressy. Invest in a quality silk maxi, and it will literally take you from day to night!

Jerd's Corner: Different Ways to Wear Graphic Tees

Diane thought this would be the perfect thing for me to write on because if any of you know me, you know I'm a lover the of the "graphic tee." For years I was a die hard Lauren Moshi girl, but have come to love Wildfox as well; now I can't pick a favorite.

So, how does one wear a "graphic tee" without looking like a roadie? I'd like to give a couple of suggestions.

1. It's all about the tee shirt; make it the focal point, keep everything else simple. I love wearing my graphic tees with dark skinnies, or leggings.

2. I know lots of women think they are "not cool enough" to wear all these rocker tees. Trust me ladies, I might be 20, but I can guarantee you are ALL cooler than me...as a matter of fact, I'd place a lot of money on this! But, if you still feel uncomfortable, I'd suggest pairing the "graphic tee" with some sort of structured jacket. I love them with leather, tweed, and/or army jackets, or even with a boyfriend blazer. Some additional structure will keep you looking age appropriate and ever so cool.

3. Play with proportions. I've noticed most of these tees are pretty oversized, and usually long in length, which begs for a narrow pant. Unless you are Alessandra Ambrosio, please be weary of bell-bottoms unless the graphic tee is on the shorter side.

4. Add a scarf. Graphic tees are casual as it is, so adding a Chan Luu scarf totally completes this cute, casual look. Furthermore, the scarf can subdue an out-there print.

Free People keeps getting better and better!!! We received a small (but delightful) delivery of FP today. Here's a small sampling of what came in:

I LOVE the "Eyelet Moto Jacket" in Black (pictured below). It's got the look of a biker jacket, but with the feel of a sweatshirt; the eyelet detailing around the collar, cuffs, and down the back lends a feminine touch to an otherwise edgy look. What's not to like?

I also think the "Nova Pullover" sweater in Butter Cream (above) is pretty fabulous. It's super soft and cozy...try layering it over a long-sleeved tee, or silky Equipment blouse...the perfect topper to any jean ensemble.

Paige's Pick: "Meteor" tank by Jenny Han

So, I went through the racks and I noticed there are (still) some awesome finds in the store right now. While in the "Backroom," I stumbled across the "Meteor" tank by Jenny Han.

This top has a very unique pattern with varying shades of cream, black, teal, and pink. It also has a pocket, a detail which we all seem to love and can't get enough of.

This look was put together for an evening out for dinner, or drinks with the girls. The "Meteor" top is paired with black James Jeans, as well as a Grey Doma leather jacket. For accessories, Ash "Dune" booties were added along with a long Claudia pearl/crystal necklace. This edgy look is so IN right now...I'm sure you can see why!

For a day-to-day idea on how to wear this Jenny Han tank, I changed up the look by switching out the black James Jeans for Dylan & George skinnies. Also the Claudia pearl necklace was swapped for a long coral one (by the same designer) to bring out the pink detailing in the top. The Grey Doma jacket was replaced by a black one; lastly, I changed out the Ash "Dune" booties for the "Divina" ones.

Not only will the jaws of those around you drop when they see you in these looks, but even better, yours will too when you see the (bargain) price!

Jerd's Corner: How to Wear Denim Shirts

The Vince "Denim Shirt" in Blue Rinse has been a topic of discussion since we received it. Ladies are having difficulties incorporating it into their wardrobes...but seriously, it's sooo easy! I love the easy summer look of it with the orange pants pictured above; this would be perfect once it gets a little warmer. I also came up with three different outfits whether your style is Classic, Bohemian, or Edgy.

Classic: I feel the denim shirt would be a great swap for the "White Shirt" in a Classic girl's wardrobe. This outfit looks fresh and carefree. Underneath the "Denim Shirt" is a C&C white tank, topped with the Vince "Square Cardigan." Yes, you can don a Canadian Tuxedo as long as the denims are different colors! I love the look of denim-on-denim, so we paired the Vince Shirt with the "Skinny" from 7FAM. To add a little glitz, a simple necklace from Jocelyn does the trick. I could totally see Jennifer Aniston wearing this!

Bohemian: If Sienna Miller is your style icon, this outfit is for you! I paired the "Denim Shirt" with the Ella Moss "Desert Bloom" skirt. This skirt adds a cute girlie touch to the more rugged top. An element in every Bohemian's closet: the Chan Luu scarf, throw one on, grab your desert booties, and you're good to go!

Edgy: If you're a lover of leather jackets and motorcycle boots, I think this outfit is the perfect venture from your usual black. I paired the Joie "Marianne" tank with the Vince top. I think the glitz adds some rocker edge to the denim. To make this look even more edgy, I paired it with the Neon Pink skinnies from 7FAM. All you need is your motorcycle boots and Balenciaga bag for this perfect spring outfit.

Trendspotting: Jackets

Coco Chanel in her signature look.

We paid homage to Coco Chanel on this blog years ago, stating then, that her influence on the world of fashion has never ceased. If anything, I feel that it has become even stronger, and more relevant. Not only have the pieces she brought forth in her designs been interpreted, and reinterpreted time and time again, BUT she has everyone lusting for, and coveting them: daughters, mothers, grandmothers..."regular" folk to A-list celebrities, no one is immune. Whether or not they are aware of it, they have been (or should be) influenced by Chanel in one way or another.

Rachel Zoe in the "Jacket"

The "Jacket" is perhaps the most symbolic of all her creations. Whether or not an original, a jacket bearing any semblance to the iconic garment is automatically dubbed "Chanel-ish." Without even seeing it, an image of a tweed jacket is somehow conjured up in the mind...this is the power of the French design house, and more importantly, of the woman who started everything years and years ago.

Knowing all this, it should absolutely not be of any surprise that the "Chanel" jacket in all it's varying forms will once again be a trend come Spring. Those that know me, know that I love myself a good cardigan, BUT dare I say, I'm quite ready to move on and embrace the "Jacket." As mentioned previously, whether you believe it or not, we are "practical" girls at heart, and because of this, the jacket is an absolute must in every fashionista's closet: the perfect topper to any and all outfits.

What you don't want to do, is "proper-ize" this look. It is much more current and relevant to "edge" it up...try throwing said jacket over a graphic tee, skinny jeans, and boots...with a neck load of chains, pearls, crystals, and everything in between! If your tastes do run more right of centre, try pairing a (cropped) tweed jacket over a printed dress and booties.

Trendspotting: Pajama Pants

The "Pajama Pant" is the trend I am most looking forward to for Spring 2012; I just think it looks so

cool. I fell in love with this trend after seeing it on the streets of New York, Paris, and Milan during the most recent fashion shows.

My favorite blogger, Man Repeller, poked fun at, and was inspired by the trend to wear her actual pajamas out!!! How cool is that?!? I love both of her looks; who would have thought a fashionista could be so economical? We did, of course, but then again, we're "practical" girls ourselves!

Michael Kors Spring 2012

The pajama pant was seen all over the Spring 2012 runway, but my absolute favorite look is from Michael Kors. I love the Safari feel and the simplicity of the outfits, letting the pant be the focal point. The easiest way to wear this trend is to keep everything else very simple, and to a minimal. A basic, solid top in a fabric other than silk would be perfect. Silk-on-silk is very hard to pull off, and you run the risk of looking like you're actually wearing pajamas, which you don't want to do. I suggest something in maybe a cotton fabric, also adding a cropped jacket might be beneficial and add some structure to the otherwise baggy pant. I would definitely suggest a wedge with these pants. If you're on the taller side, I think these would look super cute with a flat sandal like what the Michael Kors model is wearing.

Since this is such a huge trend moving forward, you know we will definitely be receiving a large selection of pajama pants in for spring, and I'm not talking about PJ Salvage! At the store right now, we have the "Stephani" Pant from Joie...these are my spring must-haves. Expect to see more from Joie and L.A.M.B come late January/February.

Transition Footwear

We've been getting lots of questions about what kind of footwear will take you from winter into spring. Sometimes I know it seems that we live in fashion "fantasyland" here at Yu, but we are actually pretty practical (yes, we are!!!). We came up with a list of 3 must-have footwear styles that will be perfect year round.

1. Peep Toe Booties

The peep-toe bootie is probably the most versatile of all three options because it is so easy to take from casual to dressy, and from winter into spring. Jessica Alba shows us three ways to wear the peep-toe bootie. For now, wear them with dark skinny jeans and a thick, chunky sweater. Come spring, I love Jessica's look with the rolled jeans and tee. To push the booties for yet another season, Alba bares her legs in a cute printed dress. To get the look at Yu, we have the Ash "Dune" bootie, which the beautiful Miranda Kerr is pictured in.

2. Motorcycle Boots

This is my (Jerd) personal favorite footwear, you will see me in my beat up motorcycle boots at least 5/7 days of the week. They are super versatile and add a little edge to a more feminine outfit. Kate Moss and Jessica Biel show how to wear the motorcycle boots now with skinny jeans, oversized tops, and a jacket. Of course, if you are more daring, you can do the motorcycle boot for a night on the town with a sequin skirt, or top. Rachel Bilson is wearing the perfect spring outfit with motorcycle boots; I love her printed dress and denim jacket...such an easy spring uniform. To get the look at Yu, we have the Ash "Russia" boot.

3. Desert/Western Booties

The desert boot is the perfect compromise between the peep-toe booties and motorcycle boot because it has the casualness of a motorcyle boot, but with more height. I love these boots with skinny jeans and a thick wool sweater a la Katie Holmes. Michelle Williams shows us we can wear footwear other than UGGs in the winter, pairing her boots with a parka. Some women think they cannot wear boots with shorts, but seriously you can as long as the boot is not too heavy! I love the look of bare legs and boots in the spring/summer...it is something unexpected!

These three footwear options will easily carry you through any season, and make dressing at any temperature stress-free!

Mabel takes Hawaii

Like many of our customers, Mabel is heading to Hawaii for the week. Surprisingly, unlike most of us, Mabel lost weight over the Christmas break (she's a size 2 in the Vince shorts), so she thought it would be the perfect time for a warm getaway! For the airport, I put Mabel in the Vince "Bias Scoop" sweater in Coastal, with a tank underneath. Some women find it difficult to dress for the airport, I suggest always wearing the bulkiest sweater/outerwear you packed on the plane to save space in your suitcase. I'm a germaphobe so I refuse to use the pillows/blankets provided by the planes; I always travel with a scarf because it doubles as a pillow/blanket. A Chan Luu scarf definitely tops the airplane blankets!

Jerd's Corner: Style Crush and Best Of 2011

So we've decided to start a segment called "Jerd's Corner" for me. I've been at Yu for over 2 years, so this store is like my second home. Although, I'm not always physically at the store, we thought this would be a nice way for my presence to still be felt there.

Style Crush

I always bend the rules a little, so my "Style Crush" is a duo, and probably the most influential girls in fashion right now, of course I am talking about the Olsen twins. I have been obsessed with Mary-Kate and Ashley since I was little, and this obsession hasn't faded. These girls are huge risk takers without looking like they are trying too hard. I love their over sized layering, and use of color; but my favorite thing about the Olsen's are their accessories!!! From their vintage Rolexs to their over sized sunglasses... I can never seem to get enough! Although, some outfits are a little out there, the Olsens' style is not meant to be directly copied, but more for inspiration...this is why they are my Style Crush.

Best of 2011

Looking back at all the trends this year, I think the best trend...which was also the biggest, was the "Army" trend. From jackets to pants, if you don't already own anything in military green, you've (obviously) been living under a huge fashion rock. Although, I kind of tired of my army pants near the end of the year, I know I will still pull them out in 2012 once in a while with my motorcycle boots. I'm also still a fan of my army jackets; I wear them all the time with leggings, skinny jeans, and lace shorts. Don't get rid of your cargo pants yet ladies, the military trend is persistent, and always big!

At the end of each and every year, there are lists upon lists of the best & worst of that year. We, at Yu Fashion, have decided to compose our own list, each of us picking a fashion trend that we loved the most.

Diane: Lace

I LOVE lace, lace anything and everything; there's something so ethereal and romantic about it, and reminds me of days gone by.

This season we've seen lace in various forms: tops, shorts, dresses, clutches, and even in jewellery. It was left to the individual whether the lace detailing on said pieces were emphasized or downplayed (although, why would you want to do that?!?). If your style leaned toward the girlie side, a lace dress with long pearl necklaces would have been a great option for a night on the town; however, if you prefer an edgier look, lace shorts worn with a graphic tee, leather jacket, and motorcycle boots would have been more up your alley. Lace, whatever you decide to do to/with it, is a good thing in my book...always!!!

The "Fanny" top by Joie was an instant bestseller at the store, and my absolute favourite piece all season...I've got mine, did you get yours???

Jessie: Colour & Printed Denim

Denim is a staple in all of our wardrobes, from skinnies to flares we can never get enough. This year the bright coloured, and printed denim seen on numerous celebrities and runways, made denim all the more exciting. I think this is such a fun way to add colour to your wardrobe. Just pair with a white tee or tank and you're ready to go. The difficulty lies in deciding which color, or print to choose (I love them all).

I know some of you ladies have been a little resistant to try this trend (it can be a little shocking seeing yourself in neon pink jeans for the first time), but as 2012 approaches, I think it's time to embrace the neon colors, and leopard prints a like. I don't think this trend is going anywhere, and as the year progresses the trend will only continue to evolve (think houndstooth & Ikat printed jeans, both of which we WILL be receiving come Spring).

Paige: Animal Print

There's no doubt about it, animal print made a lasting impression on this year's fashion world, and became a great trend in 2011.

All the a-list celebrities seemed to incorporate animal print into their daily fashions, from a full on animal printed dress to just a hint of this pattern on their shoes. This trend is incredibly easy to wear; you can wear a variety of colored animal print, as much or as little as you would like (although I do think less is more in this case), you can even mix animal prints! Best of all though is that this look can easily be dressed up or down, making it easy to go from day to night! Because of this easy to wear, and surprisingly edgy, yet elegant look, I have a feeling that this trend will not be saying goodbye at the end of 2011!

Time to put on our imagination thinking caps! This week`s pick is the "Stefani" pant by Soft Joie.

These Joie pants are what we call a "resort" item. If you're planning on jetting off for the winter, then these pants are the perfect combination of style and comfort. Adding a basic James Perse white tee, and "Tabitha" bag by Brave to the mix will make this outfit perfect for plane hopping, letting you arrive at your desired destination in style! This is where the imagination cap comes into play, although not shown in the picture, this outfit would look great with a wrist full of arm candy: Chan Luu, Karyn Chopik, and anything and everything in between. Can you say, Aloha??

The great thing about this outfit is how versatile everything is; you can easily change the feel of the outfit by switching out the individual pieces. This is exactly what I`ve done (in picture above). I added a Vince black sweater to dress up the outfit, making it a great option for a late night walk on the beach, or out for dinner and drinks with friends. Time to put on those thinking caps again: add a pair of wedges to this outfit as well as some subtle, yet sparkly jewelry, and you've got yourself a great look!

Jenna Dewan, dancer/actress, is my celebrity style crush. Although she is not constantly in the public eye, whenever she steps out of the house, whether with husband Channing Tatum, or on her own, she always dresses to impress in a very cool, and casual way. I love her look for many reasons: it's casual, simple, and sophisticated. I think she's a stylista because her understated style is practical and well suited for everyday activities, a wardrobe not just for celebrities, but for "average" woman as well. From casual, errand running to dressed up red carpet events, Jenna stands out effortlessly, which makes this stylista one of my favorites!

Jessie: Sienna Miller

I'm not a dedicated follower of celebrity style...but I guess if I had to choose someone, it would be Sienna Miller. This actress/designer/model has an effortless style that never seems over the top. I think her style is really relatable, and always interesting. Furthermore, she adds something unexpected to almost every outfit: a great shoe, or a structured jacket...whatever she puts on, she makes her own.

I'm also a fan of her extensive collection of flats. Being on the "tall side" myself, I have always felt more comfortable in flats. However, in the "fashion world," high heels seem to dominate, so it's refreshing to see a fashionista wearing flats instead of the usual sky high heels (I love her red booties in the second pic).

Overall, Sienna chooses pieces that are easy and effortless, which I think are signs of a true fashion guru.

So, the girls and I thought it would be fun to each pick a celebrity whose style we admire, and explain why it is that we feel that way...

Diane: Olivia Palermo

Many of you know that I've had a style crush on Rachel Zoe, celebrity stylist extraordinaire, for years now...though I have to admit at times, I wonder if it's more her quirky personality than fashion choices that I so admire. However, there is another whose style I admire above all others: Olivia Palermo. For those not familiar with her, she's a Manhattan socialite who shot to fame as a series regular on MTV's reality show, "The City." Though not always my favourite "character," I have to say that Olivia's impeccable style (almost) always had me swooning, and more than a little envious!!!

Though intrinsically girlie, what I admire most about her style is how eclectic it can be. She mixes both mainstream and haute couture fashions seamlessly, and is always perfectly accessorized without ever appearing too "styled." She's often photographed at major runway shows in outfits that inspire, yet seem attainable at the same time. This is why I LOVE her!!!

I have to say that my love affair with statement necklaces, and pattern "mixology" came about because of Olivia. Her outfits (some more than others), always left me inspired either to try something out for myself, or on one of you, and isn't that all we can ask of a style crush?!?

It's getting to be that time of year when the invites for "after work" functions seem to be pouring in. Without much time to spare between day and night functions, it makes sense to be dressed in something that would work for both; we like to refer to this as "double duty" pieces. Ella Moss' "Amie" dress is a must-have for the girl with a loaded calendar.

Throw a blazer on over top, add some tights, and ballet flats, and you've got an uber cute work outfit...replace the blazer with a leather jacket, and ballet flats with platform pumps, and you're ready for a night on the town!!!
