Style Highlight: Boho Chic

Every year, specifically during the summer months, it seems as though one "look" gets highlighted above all others, that look we've dubbed BOHO CHIC. Now, that doesn't mean it is any more important or relevant than the others, but rather just like the season, it seems to evoke an aura of effortlessness and ease that makes it continually popular.

Within the trend itself, there are numerous ways in which it is manifested from festival-ready gypsy vibes to urban center sophisticate. One could say then, that there are degrees to an outfit's boho-ness, and how high it rates on the boho scale is up to the individual.

The simplest recommendation for someone eager to try out this look is to pick ONE article from which to base the outfit around, too many thematic pieces together runs the risk of appearing too costume-y. Pictured above is Lovers + Friends' "Fly Away Mini" in Ivory, a free flowing slip dress with tonal embroidery throughout paired with Rails' "Elsa Distressed Vest" in Medium Vintage Wash. The lightened wash coupled with distressed detailing on the body and armholes serves to honor the integrity of the outfit's vibe while anchoring it at the same time. A statement making necklace and on trend stacked heeled sandal give overall polish.

Kimonos, inextricably linked to the bohemian movement, is another great starting point. Used as a "jacket" of sorts, it gives off a carefree vibe without being too over the top. How far you decide to push the envelope is entirely up to you. As THE focal point of the outfit above, Gypsy Soul's "L'assiette Long Kimono" in Ruby, with it's beautiful appliqued detailing and elbow length sleeves, is allowed room to shine by keeping everything else fairly simple. Free People's cropped "Eclipse Tank" in Vanilla and MOTHER Denim's "Looker Ankle Fray" in Guilty As Sin compliment the look without being too heavy handed. Again, a fashion forward crystal necklace and of the moment statement belt (B-Low The Belt's "Rogue Double Belt" in Black) add an element of sophistication to the overall outfit.

These are just 2 of the many ways to incorporate the bohemian trend into an everyday wardrobe...guidelines NOT rules though, so take from the examples what you will and have fun!!!
