Jerd's Corner: Pattern Mixing

How fun is this trend? Mixing patterns and textures is something that is difficult to pull off, but when done right, it looks oh so cool! This can be done with brights a la Anna Dello Russo. If you are brave enough to venture to the "bright side," I would pair a bright, patterned pant with a colourful, silky top or blazer in an opposing color, OR a patterned top and bright, solid pants. Since this is the most difficult to pull off, choose one piece as the pattern because double bright patterns can be a visual overload.

Shift into fall by changing up your color palates, swap your brights for deeper jewel tones. Also incorporate a graphic tee for a more casual look. I added the Rottweiler tee just because I love that outfit...throw a patterned blazer over a graphic tee to rock this trend.

Also, don't forget your stripes, polka dots, leopard, and lace! Use your pre-existing tops, and mix them together for a whole new look. A must that needs to be added to your closet this fall: Brocade. Yu will have all your brocade needs come fall.

Take some time and experiment with pattern mixing; this will definitely take some practice, but will be sooooo worth it in the end. Word of advice: if it feels right, it looks right...Always trust your gut instincts!
